Establishing egative pressure:
The suction tubing that was used during the
operation is fine and sufficiently long. Hook up the
tubing immediately in the operating room to a suction
pump. Keep the suction active during transport in the
ICU to prevent fluid from the abdomen from leaking.
Failure to keep the suction active would create an
airleak, which would provide an access route for ICU
bacteria.
Hermetic closure:
This image shows sealing the wound with the self
adhesive drape
Application of negative pressure (suction)
This image shows the application of suction to
keep the dressing sealed. There should be no air leak
at all. The margins covering skin should be
sufficiently large to prevent accidental air leaks.
